Loving the Lock

Loving the Lock

The fencepost does the twist
in time to rain and snow
and summer heat.
The gate would dance
in lockstep, breaking
hinges in its wake.

The lock stands steadfast,
unimpressed with gate
and fencepost antics.
To love the lock,
we have to fix the twist
and hope the gate stays.

How often I have twisted,
seeking freedom
from the change,
instead of loving trials
that have made
me what I am.
