My Favorite Sun

My Favorite Sun

written by: Linda M. Crate

golden champagne of sunshine
falls upon my skin through the window,
like that peach champagne
we once drank
all those years ago;

the memories always flow
an unending sea—

rosefinch,
i wish we could still
fly together on
new adventures;

i wonder what the trees have
taught you lately—

i am a different person
than the one you left behind,
and i suspect you may be different;
too—

i am sorry i wasn’t brave enough
to tell you the truth,

i couldn’t even seem to tell myself;

but every pink sunset falling
through my window and every white rose
i see even the wild ones sing to me
your name—

i hope you’re doing well,
you will always be my favorite sun.
