Need a Brother

You held me in your arms the day after I died
But maybe you should’ve looked me in the eye
You were there when I cried
And I know you were tired but you tried
I remember me on my bed, shaken cold by anxiety
And you by my side, shaken by my suffering and fragility
You lost your sister to those demons for years
Because you were too scared to overcome your own fears
To say out loud that you’re worried and that you care
Just a little, tell me you care just a little, tell me you care
About me, my past, my life, my future and about us
This weird thing between our hearts, that’s there and then not
The blue floor and the yellow tiles, the stuff you were joking about
Joking, then, when I needed you the most
And I know that’s how you cope
But God, I need you to be serious just once
Listen and remember the things you pretend you’ve forgotten
And I need you to see me, the way I really am
With the pain and the love and the fear and the bravery
But you’re too scared to love me like you should
You need the distance to protect yourself
From your pain that’s mirrored in my eyes
You need solitude and jokes and life at highspeed

But what if it’s a brother I need?
