Wherever you go it’s always there
Whatever you do it sneaks up on you from round the corner
Watching you sleep in a dump
barely making a living
or in a mansion by the beach
making millions at the stock market.
Sitting next to you in the subway
or on the leather seat of your convertible
Keeping you company at night when you’re alone
but even with friends, it still won’t budge
Watching you laugh, drink, fuck
struggling to forget its existence
Laughing at your face cause it knows you’re aware.
The darkness is always there
The pain is always there
The anguish
The ugliness
Despair…
Stop trying. Embrace it.
You can never escape anything…
Damian Laounaros was born and raised in Piraeus, Greece. He holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering although he never occupied himself in the industry. Some of his short stories have been published in online literary magazines. Since 2021 he writes on his blog - Laoudnotes. His first novel "Κατάρες" was published by Vakxikon Books.
