Nightly Chores

Nightly Chores

written by: Agnivesh Mahapatra

The night casts a shadow
Darker than itself, yet unseen;
For the light that casts it, is alight
With broken dreams and unborn aspirations.

Like the buzz of the fan
The thoughts spread throughout
Bouncing off the silk walls of chaos
Which fills the mind to feel nothing.

In the bed, bodies wriggle
Wanting to sleep, yet alluded
And wrung by time’s tight grip
Dripping blood, dropping life!

The shadow grows faint
As night heeds to rooster calls
And humans wake, oblivious;
To partake in the feast of chores…
