No Reason To Cry

No Reason To Cry

written by: Wendy Markel

I won’t watch the news tonight
and see another child die,
I won’t shed tears as two more teenagers
lie dead in a street
in the name of some unholy war,
for a god I deny.
I won’t question evil,
or fail to understand how parents maim,
or children kill for some imaginary cause;
to be like Leopold and Loeb.
I won’t watch the squirming politicians try
To justify the unguided bombs they drop.
I won’t watch the news tonight,
so I have no reason to cry.
That’s the biggest lie.
