Passion, a poem by Jim Wingrove at Spillwords.com

Passion

Passion

written by: Jim Wingrove

Passion is for troubadours
And children know the way to war
And hell is just a state of mind
In the country of the blind

The day is always overdone
But there are battles to be won
By better men than you and I
We can only watch them die

I am going to die tomorrow
And join my brothers in their sorrow
They’ll find our bones beneath the rubble
That’s all we’ll get for all our trouble

For all our love and all our hope
And all the times we had to cope
With systems of brutality
And soldiers on a killing spree

Passion comes to those who wait
Who flourish in these days of hate
And every heart is burned to stubble
That’s all we get for all our trouble

The day is made for screaming eyes
For bullets biting into thighs
For broken lives and bleeding sorrow
That’s all we’re going to find tomorrow
