Realm of the Vermilion Bird

Realm of the Vermilion Bird

The Vermilion Bird;
spark of mytho-poetic
dreams, southern icon.

***

Dreams of Southern T’ang:
Canopus in black jade night-
realm of The Red Crow.

***

Dawn clouds – spires and spines.
Night sea lights – glimmer and gleam.
The views from Lingnan.

***

Come to Ghost Market
by the sea, before cock-crow;
rare treasures to find.

***

In silken nights near
Nam-Viet, vermilion tears
drip from red candles.

***

The Fire God’s realm-
vermilion, cinnabar, red;
mystic southern land.
