NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Illustration description: The textures in this piece are derived from a snapshot of an old, pilly pillowcase. Using colour alteration tools in Adobe Photoshop Elements, I created a patchwork background in muted, pastel colours, from which I then cut the shape of a figure lying horizontally across the image on their back, hair spread out to either side of their head. I took a few more fragments to create the shape of the book in the upper left. The words of the haiku seemed well placed top and centre in white Caflisch Script Pro Bold font. Adding drop shadows to the text, the book, and the figure added the definition I was looking for.
