Settling Into Me
written by: Anna K Gilman
Let the younger ones ride the bike,
Let the wind whoosh by your face,
Let your crinkled cheeks stand by
And light up your dancing face.
I want to hike in the hills,
Away from you, and you, and you.
I want to settle into me,
With the company of a tree,
With the wind below me,
and the clouds above me,
The rocks beside me,
the dirt on my heels.
Let the birds ride the air,
Let gratitude settle in,
Let memories be so light,
so bright, that the cheekbones shine,
And the eyes delight.
So how does it end,
Can you tell me that?
Would someone come
and stroke my hand,
Allow a comforting caress?
Please don’t be freaked.
Allow me a harmonious rest.
They don’t have to come on the ride,
By losing their breath as I lose mine,
Just let my life say goodbye,
And be, and be, and be,
as this body lets go,
And goes, and goes, and goes.
I feel comforted now.
Here there is love,
Love that was whispered
with a gentle tickle in the ear.
I’ve blown a kiss back,
and now I’m ready.
Ready or not,
Away I go.
I’ll let you be-now,
to sob and to weep,
The rain to seep, and buds to greet,
Let something new arise,
and arise and arise,
It’s all there for you and you and you.
Lick an ice cream,
Kiss every new life,
Spy an ant,
Or say a rant,
Breathe in, and in, and in,
With the smile of a tree’s
Fluttering leaves,
Exhale and be, and be, and be.
