She Smiled and Said

She Smiled and Said

Whose light fell,
once the sky cleared.

What haunted scripture,
legend of a widowed angel.

What tribe are you?
she asked me,
as I stepped past.

I am Dreaming Star, I answered.
I found you in the grass,
gave you your name.

Oh! she exclaimed.
I remember you.
She smiled and said,
you saved me.

Yes, I said.
I placed you on my horse,
rode you home.
