Sleepy Hollow

Sleepy Hollow

written by: Edward Wraith

Moonlight bleeds through eldritch boughs
Where shadows stretch to realms unknown
For in this haunted glade of old
The Horseman’s haunted curse is told.

The willows weep a mournful sigh
The misty breath of a horse’s neigh
Atop a steed of midnight dread
Rides a Hassian soldier bereft of head

Hoofbeats thunder—a deathly drum
And the veil of the grave becomes undone
A shadowed wraith with his saber high
Lifts a phantom lantern with searing eyes

Beneath moonbeams rang mortal screams
Soldiers’ blood spilled in crimson streams
A vengeance awakens and the dead give rise
To torment the traveler in ghastly guise

Flee from your fear—for the bridge is near,
And swiftly you must cross;
Hold fast your head in the land of dead,
Or the Horseman shall claim your loss.
