Snakes and Ladders

Snakes and Ladders

written by: Ruth Owens

We are all playing snakes and ladders
Up and down and round and round
Sometimes up a ladder high
Then crashing to the ground.

The die is cast we make a move
We spy a certain ladder
But lurking at the bottom
Is a nasty smirking adder.

We win, we lose, we sometimes choose
To throw the dice again
We get a six and think it’ll fix
That time when we did lose.

Life is a lottery, we cannot plan
We do the best we can
To cope with the unseen
A pandemic called covid-19
