Sunday Morning Yoga

Sunday Morning Yoga

written by: Lois Perch Villemaire

Class begins with hands in prayer
at the heart.
Choose an intention, she says
thoughts of inner peace
focus energy on kindness
dedication of the practice to someone

We are like kindergarteners
obeying the teacher
careful to follow each prompt
taking deep breaths in unison
a collective whoosh fills the room.

Our bodies curve into shapes
arms above our heads
like ballerinas grand port de gras
we bend at the waist
stretching to the sound of her voice.

She imparts wise words
nods at the window towards the sun
advises not to ruminate on the past
suggests not to worry about the future
All we have is the present.
