Sunrise, Sunset

Sunrise, Sunset

written by: Don Flecknoe

Fading stars in the morning light,
Sun leaps over a slate grey sea,
And spills a river of moulten gold.

Waves tumble, thunder to the shore,
Seagulls resounding calls,
Herald a new day.

***

High dunes, adorned with spinifex,
Stunted, twisted, gnarly heath,
Sculpted by the wind.

A sandy track leads to a wood,
Lofty she-oaks tower above,
The dappled path ahead.

A lyrebird scratches at the earth,
Startled by our intrusion,
A glimpse alone is our reward.

***

We’ve walked this path many times,
Find each bend a moment new,
A memory to savour.

And now we sit and watch the setting sun,
Sink through fading copper clouds,
The future, still a mystery.
