The Better Draft

The Better Draft

written by: JaWiL

Maybe this offends you, breaks your heart,
Or makes you start questioning the very reality of it all.
But here’s the thing: I write. I always have. I’ve written for years.
I used to capture the world I see in ink,
But the spark was lost in a lot of wind,
My voice was scattered in the silence of a heart gone cold.
For a while, I felt like a crumpled page, a rough note to scribble,
A blank sheet without a plan,
A story with no direction,
Full of crossed-out lines and tragedies I couldn’t erase.
I was waiting for a muse, one that never came,
Just watching the days blur into a gray static,
Convincing myself I had nothing left to say.
But then, there was you.
And suddenly, ink began to flow again.
But for weeks resisted, for a month,
I said to myself, maybe it’s a fleet.
Here’s why I love you, why the words are coming back:
You are smart in a way that wakes me up,
Challenging my silence, sharpening my thoughts.
You make me better not by changing who I am,
But by reminding me of who I can be.
You hold a future in your hands that is so rare,
I want to be the one who guards that light,
To stand between you and the wind that stole my spark.
Because with you, life doesn’t feel like a rough note, at least not right now,
Weird how much one random text changed
It feels like a masterpiece begging to be finished,
A future I want to keep bright,
A future I want to write myself into,
Next to you, in uoy.
