The Diplomat

The Diplomat

written by: Paula Puolakka

They are calling him by his first name,
and I’m saying: “It’s inappropriate.”
They should use Mr. and his last name because they don’t know him,
not really.

They are calling me by my first name,
and I’m saying: “It’s inappropriate.”
They’re trying to gain something by acting like they’re my friends
when they’re not.

I’m asking the journalists to separate fiction from facts
– the negative from the positive –
and treat others with dignity, but – instead – they decide to delete
the “Mr.” from the publication so that I – the Diplomat – would look like a brute.
