The Lament of Vivian

The Lament of Vivian

(A secret she cannot handle)

written by: Matthew Lee Gbigbi

Could she say no and run away?
Or propose to commit suicide in another way?
This girl has grown wilder than a jungle
Threatened by society while inside, she carries a secret she cannot handle.

Her face was known by all who seek a hallot
And her dreams, they sink in the drainage
as those sex seekers drop in their ballots
Leaving with her pocket change from their ‘thirsty for young’ wallets.
Even her so-called Uncle Felix has countlessly served her so bullets

Instead of being a school girl, she was made up as a kola nut to greet strangers
Oh, this poor girl, Vivian is now the headline for oral journals and ‘tea shop’ lectures
If her abuse was a criterion for the most influential female
By now, she’d won with ease, towing trophies and receiving ‘congrats’ emails

But the opposite of that is the deal signed with the blood signature on her back
Beaten and threatened each time she tries to look back

Oh, this poor girl, Vivian, a young soul bound in chains of trade and prostitution
Are the watchers not seeing, or is this the new law of our constitution?
Could she say no and run away?
Or propose to commit suicide in another way?

This is the secret she cannot handle
And curse be the day we light her candle
Vivian is already lost in the jungle of life
For too long, this little girl has strived
Pushed away from both sides, now she’d fallen in the middle

Has anyone heard her weeping voice?
