The Taste of Life

The Taste of Life

written by: Michael Balner

Oh, how fast they slip away;
hours, days and years,
the markers of impermanence
of our sorrows,
joy
and dreams.

Like a handful of dust in the wind,
sandcorns flying, one by one,
blending into the darkening air,
soon disappearing from my sight.

And here I stand and all that’s left,
a taste lingering in my mouth;
common, yet rare – pepper, sugar n’ salt
– the taste of love.
The taste of life.
