The Veil of Vanity

The Veil of Vanity

written by: Edward Wraith

Peel back the flesh, reveal what lies beneath,
The hidden depths, where our true selves seethe,
For beneath the mask of our vanity,
Lies the heart of our darkest humanity.

Lift the veil, let truth be revealed,
The secrets of our souls, long concealed,
For in this world of shadows and pain,
We must confront the darkness to find our gain.

Gaze upon the face of mortality,
And see the beauty in our frailty,
For what is life without finality,
But a mere illusion of our immortality.

And in this dance of light and shade,
We find ourselves lost in a grand charade,
For what is love but a fleeting dream,
A flame that flickers, then fades in the extreme.

So peel back the flesh, and see the truth,
That in this world of shadows and youth,
We are but mere mortals, frail and weak,
Living a life that is fleeting and bleak.

Lift the veil of vanity, and see the light,
That illuminates the darkness of our sight,
For in this world of shadows and pain,
We must confront the darkness to find our gain.
