They Headed Away

They Headed Away

the people
who used to be around her
they headed away
she can’t keep pace with them
how she wishes they stayed
at hand
especially on evenings like that
when she shakes and trembles
she wishes she could run
and catch up with them
but she feels so lame
love and friendships are
as fragile as glass
what a shame
she swims in wine mixed with tears
trying to stay on the surface
making every effort not to sink
in bitter regrets

so she takes the time to pity herself
she takes the time to love herself

she’s worth it
she is
no matter how far away
