To Er Is Human, To Muse, Opine

I’m one of those who might defer
when she’s with someone she’d prefer
to incur what he might transfer—
effects they usually deter
because they know that could infer
entanglements which might occur.

For me, though memories should spur
some strong emotion, they’re a blur,
so I’m not shaken—they don’t stir
but slowly fade, ala Cheshire
cat’s smile awhile with its last purr

(and that reminds me of some fur
I once knew well, so I’ll confer
with muses who’ll drink my liqueur
and act as Cupid’s saboteur
to tell me I’m an imposter,
that past adventures won’t recur—
we’ll never be the way we were).

So here’s to you, Madame, Monsieur;
I will not slander and won’t slur
your choices—thought I get a burr,
so when I write I might refer
to those she chose, all proving her
bad choice with which I can’t concur.
