Trapped in Silence
written by: Nandika Narang
Me and my truth sit in silence.
A shaken up bottle, never opened,
A flower never blooming,
The sun never rising,
Surrounded by icy silence.
Red, hot lava boiling,
Tangs of breathlessness,
Two rocks colliding and pushing against one another,
Drops of rain and gusts of wind before a storm,
Me and my truth sit in silence.
Words written,
Actions done,
Thoughts of truth,
Not even silence can take.
A new world I want to make.
But for now,
me and my truth sit in silence.
I am Nandika Narang, a sophomore in high school. I write short stories, essays, and poems in my free time. I've always been a writer from a young age so being creative has been natural for me. It's my way of self-expression and making sense of the world around me. In the past two years, I focused on poetry as poems are a way to capture ideas in a short amount of space and are open to the reader's interpretation. My first poem published is my Tree poem which I wrote for my Bio class to spread awareness on the environment. Ever since then, I also published a poem, Distant Memories in my school's magazine. Writing is where I can create worlds of my own imagination, see the world in a clearer lens, and I feel free in being myself. It makes me think of things in a bigger way and helps me be vulnerable in ways that I am not otherwise. I like to be expressive of my feelings in my writing so that it’s intimate and real. When I let my feelings out, it gives me clarity on them and allows me to connect more with myself. I want to capture that feeling through associations and descriptions to truly embrace it.
