Wanderlust

Wanderlust

written by: Madhu Gangopadhyay

I wish to fly in the sky like Helios:
Have a glimpse of Zeus’ famous thunderbolt!
I want to sail to the land of the Greeks
Where guests received sumptuous treats!
If I could I would go along
To Ithaca and Sparta to hear Penelope’s song.
Or maybe visit Agamemnon’s house
Where Clytemnestra with Aegisthus killed her spouse!
I, like the clouds, on the Egyptian sky
Would watch over Cleopatra like a spy,
Witness her secret love affair
With Anthony, see her infuse the air
With the scent of love so intoxicatingly sweet
When two passionate lovers on the sly meet!
From there on I, like the rain, shall pour
Down on the plains of the Indus, I adore!
Visit ancient temples, mystical and serene.
The fertile land of prosperity and green!
The snow clad Himalayas standing tall
Decked with the snowflakes I shall twirl;
If I were a gypsy I would wander to far off lands
Where riot of colours scatter over the golden sand!
Like a thirsty soul, I wish to devour
The beauties the world has on us to shower!
