War V

War V

written by: Jeff Flaig

They lay open and bleeding
Sinew and bone exposed to the sun
Fleshly putrid stench elevating
Hardly recognizable as someone’s son

Sacrificed on the alter of battle
Congregating body parts with horrible eyes
Staring aimlessly and deceased
Fixed on their last deathly cries

Participants in the ritual of war
Laid about this podium of death
Worshiping in the eerie daylight
Seeking sermons for one last breath

Let us sing praises in dark silence
Or will I sing this death song alone
For all the souls who have gathered here
Who worship motionless, next to my own
