When I Hear “L’Amour Toujours”

 When I Hear “L’Amour Toujours”

Long ago song
His song
My crying song
Now faded
Like Chretien de Troyes.

I reach out to ghosts
But the ouija board
Gives a busy signal
It’s the only way we know
They were ever here

I was twenty once
It was awful
To be
So
confused.

But
I would like
To do it all over
Like hunting toads
Under Friendly’s doghouse
Until the day I found the snake.

So pour me another
Bacardi Breezer
Or a Cheeky Vimto
And let me tell you
About the good old days
When pain was simple
And joy was knowing
Whom the grail served.
