A Winter’s Spell

A Winter’s Spell

Poetry

By Anne G

The Winter’s pale did cast a spell

upon the hillside snowflakes fell

The stark white valley deep in snow

it’s creeks and brooks quiet and still

But for a hare in winter’s coat

a few small sparrow’s wistful trills

The frozen landscape within sight

seemed to attest to nature’s plight

I peeked into the icy air with

bated breath my mind awhirl

Whilst all around me

time stood still

The promise of spring

seemed to be nil

I quelled my cabin fevered thoughts

of endless days and nights of cold

With visions of budding flowers and leaves

of birds in flight and burgeoning trees

My hopeful heart the promise true

I felled the cast of winter’s spell
