It wasn’t you, you had already gone,
Your arm over her shoulder as you turned
And did not see mascara start to run.
The dancing stopped, another poor girl spurned
It wasn’t you, you had already gone.
Your selfish whim, lust rather, in you burned
Another win, my lonely bed forgone.
My heart broken. Yet again nothing learned.
It wasn’t you, you had already gone,
There was no sign when into night I fell
Me, forgotten. You, on to the next one
Let us hope she is not a ‘kiss and tell’
As I will be, when sadness cools to rage
And now online, I start a bright new page
I've come late to writing but now it's like an addiction, constantly in my thoughts. I'm a painter and have a rescued ex-racing greyhound whose ability to sleep I would love to emulate. I live on the south coast of England although originally from Lancashire and am currently editing my first novel about the adventures of an unemployed weaver caught up in the American Civil War during the Lancashire Cotton Famine.
