Your Silence is The Biggest Crime in Gaza

Your Silence is The Biggest Crime in Gaza

written by: Kimber-Lee Basson

Gaza City cannot wait.

The vases in my house are all broken,
scream as loud as you need,
and break every vase.

No one.
No one should live on children’s graves.

More help.
More change.
More money.

Everlasting peace.
Where?

More murals.
More emergency kitchens.
More solidarity efforts.

Lasting harmony,
but when?

A conflict over who gets to control land,
sacred land that belongs only to Allah.

A human conflict,
exchanged for a child’s shoe,
a mother’s prayer,
crimson stains.

War—an open-air, suicidal prison.

The Rainbow Nation stands with you,
our freedom hard-won,
our hearts still aching.

Until we walk in a rubble-free,
sovereign Palestinian state,
let our voices
shatter every last vase.
