Splendor Solis

Glissando slide, last rays of sun
sing into a cauldron of gold;
champagne embers scatter
on the warmth of waiting evening;
cupped by white manuka,
mantled pohutukawa flame,
the Solstice sun is crowned;
a taste of joy, chill to my lips,
reflects the panoply of Christmas splendour
in the gems of a wine-filled glass.
