The Hollow

Crisp, yellowed leaves danced to the ground. The trees readying themselves for a rest.
Soon snow would weigh them down, breaking the weaker branches. She couldn’t allow herself to think about that as she scurried, desperate. Her feet numb, bare against the frozen mud, her tiny body shivering. Hours had passed, and darkness was falling. A large tree caught her eye, a chill of recognition creeping up her spine. Had she gone around in circles? The silence, suddenly shattered by the crunch of heavy boots.

Hope? Danger?

“Daisy!”

A familiar voice. Her breath caught as relief finally washed through her.
