Autumn Dust
written by: Justine Engelbrecht
Autumn dust falls from the amber tree,
her gold gilt edges swaying in the evening breeze,
as she bathes in the last rays of the day’s sun.
A miraculous yellow brandishing the
evening garden, as it settles in for the night.
Glimmering from the corner, high above
the swimming pool, dropping her yellow pearls,
on the water’s edge. You can almost hear her humming.
Robin puffs his little orange breast, and a spin of his wing,
as he dances through her amber leaves.
Season’s end sunflowers bow slightly in her direction,
a small tomato ripe enough for the evening
salad, falls to the ground, rolling onto the trodden grass.
The holly hocks and dahlias look up at the night airglow,
and the day falls in a cloth of silence.
