Temporary Inaction

written by: Lori Marchesin

A room with windowpanes painted
by sunrise’s orange bread.
I keep the window open,
look for the key hidden inside
a cloud going astray and hope
to hear the sound of a call to action.
Because this room is not square —
It’s a round stone well
reflecting the sky in a river, climbing up
I can hear its blue chattering
and children’s laughter falling
on the windowsill like pebbles
with the rhythmic sound
That can be life’s call to action
