February’s Fury

Candy wrapper remnants of Valentine’s Day scuttled across the frozen asphalt
Like discarded hearts of the lonely
Snow blanketed the empty streets and
Weighed heavy on the evergreens as the wind awoke in an unsettled state
Like the madness of Loki always changing form
Deceiving, moving from
Snow, ice, vapor and water
The tree branches fell and landed on the lonely hearted candy wrappers
I fled frozen faced towards my refuge
Amongst the graveyard gloom I sought solitude in a welcoming room
In the warm comfort of silence I sipped
On the cup of the ancients and racked my brain
For words
The fury of February swirled around me and as the ground crumbled
I drank the mead of poetry made from the spittle and blood of those who came long before me
Mixed with honey and berries to give it a little flavor
And just as I put my pen to paper
Then the sun began to shine
