The Cracks In The Wall

Half of knowing is forgetting

every person
who ever held themselves
together
came apart later that night

something in the darkness
reaches for us
the bed frame becomes wobbly
and it can suddenly hit you
how breathing isn’t really by default

something in our bodies
demands that we live

something else makes us wish that we weren’t

and the night drags on

falling
willingly
into our own little catastrophes

over
and over
until
the scars
are asleep,

and the unnameable
lies still
in our mouths,
breathing
because for once
we want to.
