Going Home

Going Home

I patiently wait…
As you cling to every breath,
phantom listeners watch,
an invisible force hovers.

By your window I sit, smothered, like a doll…waiting…
to melt into nowhere,
A paper shadow,
penetrated by citron shafts,
as yellow rags crease flaxen clouds.

Sobbing on a handkerchief of Spanish lace,
My voice quivers… ‘I love you.’
As Blackbird sounds his big note of freedom.

A place of grace you will ascend,
drink the Sun’s yellow wine.
Every day a summer’s day!
Winds never moan
and Swallows slide on lilac breezes.

Let go dear Grandad…
for ruby Roses wait to bloom,
the blossoms are snowing pink.
Fluttering wings of Angels greet…
For you are home.
