Do As I Say

Do As I Say

“Nothing” was my answer most days
It reverbed in passive echoes

“What can you add?” was the question
But “can” and “will” do not share souls
No heart-shaped tree carvings for them

Just know, I teemed with thought bubbles
Smart balloons stretched taut with regret

Same ones you swallow in my class
Locked girl, Caged Bird, sans words

Like Hester Prynne and Stella K.
“Nothing” was my answer most days

Just know, I teemed with thought bubbles
Like all the women slayed in Nam
Except eight engraved on that Wall

Hold not your peace but speak
For you and for me and for Eve
