First Job

First Job

written by: John Grochalski

the girl
on her cell phone

takes down the information
for her first job interview

she sounds so excited and full of pep

when she hangs up the phone
she plays with her hair
in the window of the bus

gives herself a slight smile

still untouched by a work world

that in another twenty years
will render her no more alive

than a suicide.
