Block Party USA

Block Party USA

written by: John Grochalski

overheard
the sky is gray
as the deluge comes

like the television weather forecaster
in the mini skirt said,

it’s going to rain all day

and all of their american flags hang limp

their colors dulled
against the lead pencil sky

as the
god fearing
country loving
patriots

sit on their stone porches
with bored, disappointed, scowling faces

while the dogs on the block walk around
sniffing each other’s asses

getting gleefully soaked in the rain
