Confidante Mystics
written by: Arif Ajmi
Blare hymns have subdued
and we set on the habitual walk.
Away from the racket and clamor,
ambulating down the dusty lane
towards the expansive paddy fields,
Cloaked in fresh darkness.
As the flaring street lights fade away,
the Fall songs of crickets
assure us of the solitude,
We recline to the mossy fundament
and uncork our labyrinthine themes;
of defining time and refining poets;
of decoding life and bemoaning death;
of heretic chatter and sacred platter.
Meanwhile the Darkness stokes the lullabies
of its confidante mystics
and soaks the aroma
of compassionate puffed smokes.
The ambiance spells of its reign
and no one subsists beyond them.
