The Music Box

The Music Box

written by: Riham El-Ashry

I had a box that I kept dearly.
It established its place at the corner.
Watching me silently—hushing my breath.
Grandmas handed it down—closed.
No one dared to open,
It was stored and valued with ignorance.
The quiet box, though, ruled
By its tenets we abide,
But never defied to explore,
That was hidden inside.

One sun and many orbits,
Rotate into the dark void.
And where would light be found?

A search for knowledge that breaks the lock,
And smashes the vintage box to pieces.
One the ground lies
Glass chunks and no music.
