A Damphyr Knows Need

A Damphyr Knows Need

always,
you ignored
my light.
you want my darkness?
fine, step into it;
you will find there’s moon
and stars to guide you
through the forest
but little else—
there will be hooting of distant owls,
songs of crickets and yowling wind;
there will be a murder of crows and ravens
waiting to pick apart what is left of you
after you’ve been vanquished by my nightmares—
you thought you were the predator,
but you will soon find
you were the prey instead;
these fangs will spare you no mercy
when they carry you into the underworld
for a damphyr knows hunger—
i won’t apologize for it.
