An Gorta Mór – The Great Hunger

There’s nothing I can say to you
all light has left your young green eyes
The prátaí in the fields below are
blighted; rotten on for miles
Taking our family and our friends
the Famine Ship waits on the shore
A chara, from my empty hands
take all my prayers
I’ll take your woes

NOTE FROM THE AUTHOR:

Prátaí – potatoes (in Irish)
Chara – friend (in Irish)
