An Ode To The (Night) Owl
written by: Sara Ali
They speak of golden mornings with such delight and flair,
Of birds that chirp at sunrise and crispness in the air,
But while they jog in silence and sip their herbal teas,
I’m drifting in my blankets, wrapped in carefree ease.
They glorify routines with discipline so tight,
Of planners, green smoothies, and early morning light,
But I prefer the moon’s soft glow and shadowed skies,
Where thoughts run wild and dreams materialize.
At night, the world slows down and peace begins to grow,
While morning’s full of chaos, of traffic, rush, and woe,
No buzzing phones or deadlines breathing down my neck,
Just candlelit calm and playlists full of spec.
They rise at six with yoga mats and cold-pressed drinks,
While I compose my masterpieces between Netflix links,
For every genius wasn’t forged in early hours of pain,
But rather from nocturnal storms of thought and brain.
Who needs the golden hour or sunrise’s blinding cheer,
When midnight musings are so much more sincere?
I find my rhythm when the noise has slipped away,
And silence gently guides me till the break of day.
While others hustle with their morning glory tales,
I chase the stars with logic, heart, and midnight sails,
Their eyes may sparkle at the dew upon the grass,
But I sip moon-sugar lattes from a velvet glass.
So let them have their journals, their 5 a.m. clubs,
Their lemon water routines and motivational hubs,
I’ll stay loyal to the night, where soul and mind ignite,
Where chaos turns to magic under soft obsidian light.
The lark may chirp of purpose with a caffeinated smirk,
But I create in shadows, where wild wonders lurk,
And though I sleep past brunch with a yawn so unapologetic,
I live a life that’s soulful, strange, and slightly poetic.
So here’s to all the midnight minds who shine when skies are black,
Who don’t believe in “rise and grind” or morning on-track,
We’re rebels, dreamers, moonlit thinkers full of art—
And we like our lives with messy hair and a slow start.
