Another Christmas Eve in Christmastown

Another Christmas Eve in Christmastown

written by: Dean Robbins

Night of all Nights, again you’re clear;
the full moon bright and stars to steer;
a foot of freshly fallen snow.
Perhaps a walk before I go.

It seems I do this every year,
my sleigh is filled, my courses near,
and still there’s time before my ride.
But time’s always been on my side.

In past, I’ve strolled a straggler’s street,
greeting the few I chance to meet,
“Hello! Happy Christmas to you!”
They seem to love it when I do.

I’ve also wandered down the road
gauging the soft and sparkling load
of weightless snowflakes piled now.
Not that it’s mattered – we don’t plow.

I’ve traipsed the lonely alleyway
ever as bright at night as day,
leaving tracks from a steady plod.
‘Twas easy to see where I’d trod.

Ah, well (ho ho). Our journey calls.
And this full moon, before it falls
and we have made our way around,
will find the ten of us homebound.

But to return, I first must go.
Christmas will soon arrive below
as restless children long to hear
sleighbells announce flying reindeer!
