Bees and Birds

written by: NIM

The bees and the birds
(Or ears and the mind)
Come in different shapes
With parts of varying size

They have a job to do
Out in those colorful fields
Drinking nectar from the tubes
Spreading pollen from their heels

But the shapes of all the flowers
Change the more they seek
And not everything this hour
Will take the hummingbird’s beak

Until those suckles of honey
Long blossoms a delight
It gets its fill of nectar
That divine taste is all right!

But in these tubes of wisdom
Which helps the birdie see
Lays a problem for the humble,
Yet gracious bumble bee

The flower is too narrow
The thorax just too wide
Poor little bee can’t reach
That divine pollen inside

What worketh for bird
Is not fit for the bee
So off it must go search
Or end up hungaree

This wasn’t about the bellies
of little flying things
It’s about keeping your mind open
And your ears a listening

If wisdom is a door
And knowledge is the lock
Will you just walk through
Or do you need to knock?
