Chaff

Chaff

written by: Saila Abby

Memories pulled on my heartstrings,
Snap, snap I go,
Staring at the cloudy sky as drops,
Screened my soul,
Weary skin deep,
Reliving days gone by.

March, march I go,
Slogging to a long forgotten song,
The rusty tunes of lost times,
Filtered the air,
My nostrils bled dry, the wind a silent mouse,
Time and time again.

Climbing this mountain is no easy job,
Where’s the trajectory that inflamed me?

On a path sunken beyond reason,
A glimpse here, a glimpse there,
Yet I must make obeisance to the ghost of the past,
So my way can be paid,
And my path straight,
I tread on soleless feet,
Marking the voyage with medals of old.

Time has gone asleep,
Casting me into the dark,
Like an errant child,
And I sniffed in silence as I made my way to Dilemma’s arm.
