Dark Ambiance

Fire at center surrounding dark
Keep an eye on shadows behind
How they move most curious
Off of the trees and into night
A rustic glow projects on us
Like a cover to profess
Some weakness, a revelation
Laughed off in all seriousness

Your attention seduces me
Dark ambience makes it real
Heat our front to level the cold
I only guess, you won’t reveal
What is, what’s done in the past
Would it mean less told in daylight
Maybe sitting closer brings
A want for better insight

Disturbing stories one would share
As smoke and flicker acts them out
Noises heard In a quiet pause
Stirs concern of being watched
Crossed my mind how vulnerable
Your hand near mine, fingers brush
A few more sips, our faces ease
In slow smolder red and deep

Embers die in the hours late
It couldn’t last until we leave
Ghostly remains circle there
Still in that glow left wanting more
