Dinner Winner

There was an old lady that lived in a house
With a dog and a cat and a little brown mouse
She opened the cupboard and saw it was bare
Not a single scrap of food was in there
The little brown mouse ran away to hide
As cat turned towards him with greedy green eyes
“Now what can we do? There’s nothing for dinner
We’ll all have to search and see who’s the winner”
So the lady, the dog, the cat and the mouse
Went in search of some dinner outside the house
The dog found his place where he’d buried his bone
And dug it all up with a grunt and a groan
The cat saw a pond with lots of big fish
And hooked one out for a yummy dish
The old lady knocked at the house next door
And said “Can you help me because I’m so poor”
“A carrot or two would be just grand”
And the neighbour was happy to lend her a hand
Now little brown mouse didn’t know how to win
He had no idea how to even begin
Then suddenly his nose caught a familiar whiff
And he crept round the door to take a sniff
“I thought so. Some cheese I lost yesterday”
So he picked it up and took it away
Back came the lady, the dog and the cat
And put all their catch on the kitchen mat
Along came mouse with his morsel of cheese
And dropped it down looking so very pleased
“Look,” said the lady as she took out a pot
“All we need for a soup we’ve got”
As they sat at the table for a delicious dinner
The old lady said everyone was a winner
