Elegy

Elegy

written by: Don Flecknoe

Let this dark night, veil and hide my sorrow
And stars the only eyes to bare my shame,
I could have been there if only had I known,
We each agreed neither was to blame.

To hear that you had suffered for so long
Distant, and I’m told without a friend,
No time to mend those differences of ours,
And then to hear too late towards the end.

To think I could have been there by your side,
I would have flown there, just to be with you,
We’d null the foolish rift that caused such pain
And rekindle the love that we once knew.

Now the future holds no summer breeze,
Each day a rhythmic drum beat far away
That slow lament keeps ringing in my ears,
And tomorrow, will be grey as yesterday.
